Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the first images and information with the new generation of the GLA SUV.
The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV has been officially unveiled after a series of teaser images previously released. The new model is 10 cm higher than the previous model, now approaching a slightly more traditional silhouette in the area of compact size SUVs. The previous model had the shape of a hatchback with more robust body elements. The wheelbase of the new GLA is 30 mm higher than the previous generation which led to a larger interior space for the rear passengers. The leg space is now 116 mm larger.
At the design level, the new GLA has taken over some of the elements of the GLB SUV, both on the outside and inside. Inside, the dashboard is fully digital, customers can choose between two seven-inch or two 10.25-inch screens and the MBUX infotainment system that offers head-up color display, augmented reality navigation, voice control and more.
The new model will debut on European markets in the spring of 2020, and on the markets of the United States of America and China, the GLA will make its commercial debut in the summer of 2020.
Mercedes-Benz GLA can be equipped with 4Matic all-wheel-drive system with variable torque distribution as an option. The new model will use four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
The basic engine is provided by the 1.33-liter turbo engine offered on the GLA 200. The engine develops 163 hp at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm between 1,620 and 4,000 rpm.
The top version will be the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4Matic model that uses the 2.0 turbo engine that develops 306 hp at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/hour is done in 5.1 seconds.
