Porsche plans to create a modern version of the coupe 914, which was the simplest and cheapest model of the brand in the 1970s. This was told by the chief designer of the company Michael Mauer in a special section of the official website of the brand, which is dedicated to the original Porsche 914.
According to the designer, it can become either a sports car without sophisticated electronics or an analogue of the Audi TT RS and Volkswagen Golf R, which are built on a front-wheel-drive platform. Mauer himself is inclined to the first option.
The Porsche 914 was developed and sold jointly by Volkswagen and Porsche. The coupe was equipped with a thermal engine with a volume of 1.7 to 2.0 litres, located behind a two-seater cabin. In total, from 1969 to 1976, 119 thousand copies were produced.
