The European carmaker Skoda announces that the first copy of the fourth generation Fabia has left the assembly line of the plant in Mlada Boleslav. The new Skoda Fabia is built on the MQB-A0 platform of the Volkswagen Group.
The new generation of the Skoda Fabia model is produced on the same production line as the Skoda Scala and Skoda Kamiq model lines. However, even before the start of production, it was necessary to modernize the entire line, which required an investment of 110 million euros. Nevertheless, a number of complex and physically demanding operations are now being taken over by robots, which thus enable high automation of production.
The MQB-A0 platform has enabled a significant expansion of safety and comfort equipment. The total length of 4,108 mm has broken the four-meter mark for the first time, and in combination with the overall width of 1,780 mm, the new Fabia promises even more interior space. After all, the volume of the luggage increased by 50 litres to the resulting 380 litres.
The Fabia's basic equipment includes six airbags, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, electric front windows, central locking with remote control, manual air conditioning, tinted windows, daytime running LED lights. There is also an onboard computer, a tire repair kit and an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display.
The new Skoda Fabia will come with five gasoline engines, from 65 to 150 hp, with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG automatic. Its starting price: 13,990 euros.
It should be noted that the first generation of the Skoda Fabia was introduced in 1999 and, with more than 1.7 million cars sold, has become one of the most successful models in the segment. The second generation was introduced in 2007 and the third generation followed in 2014. Worldwide, the Skoda Fabia was sold in 4.5 million units.
